Wielding a spotting scope for bird counts. You won’t need one for the Great Backyard Bird Count, which runs from Feb. 14 – Feb. 17, 2014. Just count the bird species you see in your backyard or anywhere you roam during that time.

Bird Watching

It’s a rugged hike to the Goat Trail that takes you to Big Bluff on the Buffalo River, but the views are incredible. This is a look across the valley toward Big Bluff from a different—also rugged—trail. You can see the ledge, the undercut spots where hikers stop for lunch, even the hole in the wall.

This rider stopped to water her horse in a shimmering Buffalo River. She said they had explored a winding trail all afternoon. After taking a long draw, her horse was anxious to head back to camp.
