Damaged Trees Marked with Paint Splotches in WMAs

If you visit an Arkansas Game and Fish Commission wildlife management area in the northern part of the state, you may see one or more trees marked with paint.

It won’t be purple, the paint denoting no trespassing. The trees marked with paint in other colors are ones with damage that need attention from clean-up crews.

The ice storm of January 2009 inflicted extensive damage to trees in many management areas. Contractors continue to work at cleaning up these areas, working for the AGFC under guidelines of the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA). Some of the trees have dangling limbs that at dangerous.

See a tree with a paint splotch? Just keep well clear of it.
