Fifth-grade teachers in central Arkansas are encouraged to enroll their classes in the fourth Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Youth Outdoor Expo set for April 27-28 at Lake Sylvia Recreation Area in the Ouachita National Forest.
The free expo about 30 miles west of Little Rock is open to students from Conway, Faulkner, Perry, Pope, Pulaski, Saline and Yell counties. Enrollment is limited to 1,000 students each day on a first-come, first-served basis.
“What I love most about the expo is that we are introducing kids to life-long active hobbies,” said Eric DeVries, the AGFC central region education coordinator. “Step away from the video games and get outside. There is a whole world waiting to be explored.”
The Youth Outdoor Expo features archery, fishing, BB guns, wildlife biology, wildlife officers and more topics for students to explore, taught by AGFC and other instructors around the lake. It’s a hands-on, all-day experience that brings students closer to the outdoors and helps them understand the natural world. Events start at 8:45 a.m. and wind up at 2:15 p.m. each day.
