The awards just keep coming for George Dunklin Jr., a commissioner for the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. Earlier this month, Dunklin received the Arkansas Association of Conservation Districts Outstanding Conservationist-Community Leader for 2009 at the group’s annual meeting in Eureka Springs.
Earlier this year, Dunklin was named Budweiser’s Conservationist of the Year at the 2009 SHOT Show in Orlando, Fla.
According to the AACD, Dunklin’s dedication and commitment to conservation has been demonstrated at both the local, state and national levels. “He has implemented many conservation practices on his own properties which have made him one of the “shining stars” among landowners,” the group said in a press release.
The statewide award is given annually based on the nominations which are submitted from the state’s 75 conservation districts.
Dunklin has been a commissioner for the AGFC since 2005 after being appointed by former Gov. Mike Huckabee. He also has been a member of Ducks Unlimited for 30 years and is a member of the president’s council.
He was DU district chairman for 12 years, conservation committee member 1990-95 and sponsor chairman for 15 years and previously served on the DU Growth and Innovations Committee. He currently sits on the board of directors and also is the senior vice-president of the Conservation Programs Committee.
