For those of you who enjoy cool fall camping and warm campfires, there is good news. River Road Park at Clearwater Lake in Missouri just below the dam will again be open year round, complete with electricity and hot showers.
Camping will be on a first-come, first-served basis, and camping fees remain the same--$12 for non-electric sites, $16 for electric sites and $20 for sites with water and electric. As always, your Golden Age and Golden Access cards are welcome. Simply provide the number from your card on the camping fee envelope. Starting Nov. 1 through March 14, fees will be collected on the honor system. Place them in the camping fee honor vault near the park entrance.
We are pleased to announce that our volunteer camp hosts, Charles and Lynn Ernest, will be staying in the park through the winter to assist in answering questions about camping or other matters concerning Clearwater Lake. They are always eager to provide friendly conversation.
Electrical connections will be available throughout the park, with water available at the hydrants and full service showers available in A section. The dump station will remain open, but no fresh water can be provided for tank flushing because of the possibility of the water freezing.
Also, for an added convenience, the electricity will remain on at the group shelters in Piedmont Park throughout the off season allowing for more convenient year round use.
Fall is a wonderful time of year to enjoy the outdoors. If you or a friend are looking for a place to stay during hunting season or are just interested in enjoying the cool refreshing atmosphere of fall camping, then I strongly encourage you to come visit us at Clearwater Lake.
The Black River Hike and Bike Trail, winding 3.3 miles along the banks of the Black River, should be in popular demand this fall showing off all Mother Nature’s splendid fall colors.
As always, we look forward to your visit. All we ask is be safe when in or near the water, remove any trash you bring with you, and respect those around you.
