Fall has begun, and many of you will spend more time outdoors enjoying the many hunting opportunities found at Clearwater Lake. With 16,000 acres of managed natural resources, you are sure to find the game you seek.
This is just the beginning of what we hope will be a very safe and bountiful fall hunting season on the Clearwater Lake Project. Dove season is in full swing. It won’t be long before other hunting opportunities will be available such as rabbit, deer and turkey.
Food for game is plentiful. Squirrels have been cutting hickory nuts, and recent high winds have covered the forest floor with acorns. Milo, soybeans, winter wheat, winter peas, and red clover have been planted in various plots throughout the project to facilitate wildlife as well as hunting opportunities.
Although the majority of the Clearwater Lake Project is open to hunting under statewide regulations, some areas are off limits. These include developed campgrounds, the dam and spillway, and the 335-acre Watchable Wildlife Area on the south side of the Lower Black River. The remainder of the project land is open for hunting. There are parking lots spread throughout the primitive areas for your convenience. Maps of these lots are available at the project office.
We at Clearwater Lake hope you thoroughly enjoy your hunting adventure. We ask that you respect the natural resources that are here for everyone and that you leave the areas clean and unspoiled. In addition, we wish for all hunters to be safe and respectful of others so all can enjoy the beautiful outdoors equally.
