09-19-2008Field and Stream has a list of “150 Best Fishing Spots” on their website this month, and five Ozarks locations are listed among them.
Lake Eufala in eastern Oklahoma made the list, while the Missouri River took honors its namesake state, and two spots in Arkansas were named: Lake Dardenelle near Russellville as well as Norfolk Lake near Mountain Home.
The outdoors publication said “now is the time to chase spawning catfish” and called lake Eufala “the money spot” for blues, channel cats and flatheads.
The Missouri River also got high praise for its catfish population and said the river was “well known for growing them.” Field and Stream said that the stretch of river near St. Joseph gets little fishing pressure and can produce a number of flatheads.
Dardanelle got raves for its excellent habitat for largemouth bass, crappie and catfish. The online publication said that “strip pits near Russellville, with many fingers and steep banks lined with water willows, are a favored hangout of giant largemouths.”
So grab a pole, some lures for bass and your favorite catfish bait and head to a prime Ozarks fishing spot!
