Drop In Highway Deaths Makes MoDOT’s Year

JEFFERSON CITY - Looking back on 2008, Missouri Department of Transportation Director Pete Rahn said none of the agency’s accomplishments tops the drop in highway deaths the state has experienced.

The Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety announced in January that Missouri had reached its goal of 1,000 or fewer deaths one year early.  Not since 1993 has the state had fewer than 1,000 fatalities.

Warm Weather in January, Says MU Climatologist

Look for a welcome warming of winter weather, says Pat Guinan, climatologist with University of Missouri Extension.

“The January outlook calls for above-normal temperatures for much of the United States east of the Rockies, including all of Missouri,” said Guinan, with the MU Commercial Agriculture Program.

St. Louis Metro Area in Violation of Federal Air Quality Standards

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency officially notified the state of Missouri today that areas of the St. Louis metropolitan area in Missouri do not meet the Agency’s daily standard for fine particle pollution, also known as fine particulate matter, or PM 2.5.
