“Hay Rustler” Uses Internet to Swindle Arkansas Producers

LITTLE ROCK – Hay rustlers are putting a cyber spin on a scheme to bilk a few bales out of Arkansas producers, according to Dr. Tom Troxel, professor/associate head of the Animal Science Department of the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service.

The scam surfaced as producers in Van Buren, Washington and Hempstead counties received e-mails from a supposed buyer, Troxel said. But the producers smelled a rat. …[more]

Arkansas Supreme Court Rules In Important FOI Case

LITTLE ROCK - In an important Freedom of Information case coming out of Pulaski County, the Arkansas Supreme Court has ruled that most of the e-mails generated by the county’s comptroller are public records.

Russellville Reactor at Full Power After Fire

Russellville, AR – The nuclear power plant in this central Arkansas city is continuing to run on full power today even after an electrical fire broke out in an auxiliary building on the site.

The plant, which is owned by New Orleans-based Entergy Corp., generates 1,834 megawatts of power to residents in Arkansas. One megawatt can power around 500 homes.

Record-Setting Rice Crop Keeps Arkansas In Top Spot

Arkansas will keep its crown in 2007 as the nation’s leading rice grower by producing an estimated 95.4 million hundredweight (hundredweight = 100 pounds) of rice. Gov. Beebe Declares 2 Arkansas Counties Disaster Areas

LITTLE ROCK – Governor Mike Beebe has declared Crittenden and Lincoln Counties state disaster areas due to the damage caused by thunderstorms and tornadoes on Wednesday, October 17 and early Thursday, October 18.
