America’s Best Idea, the National Parks, gets even better this summer with two fee-free weekends at more than 100 national parks that usually charge entrance fees*.

“National parks preserve our heritage, promote recreational experiences, and provide places of quiet refuge,” said National Park Service Director Jon Jarvis. “Most people live within a short drive of a national park so I encourage everyone to spend some time enjoying America?s Great Outdoors during National Park Week.”

The first fee-free weekend is this weekend, June 5th & 6th, where visitors to Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield will be able to participate in some special activities. Saturday evening, from 7 pm - 8 pm, there will be an “Arts in the Parks” concert on the lawn of the visitor center, featuring the bluegrass band “High Strung.”

Be sure and mark your calendars for the second additional fee-free weekend, this summer, on August 14th and 15th, 2010.

For a list of family fun activities this summer, visit the National Parks: The Place to be for Family Fun website at http://www.nps.gov/pub_aff/parks2009/index.htm.

*Fee waiver includes: entrance fees, commercial tour fees, and transportation entrance fees. Other fees such as reservation, camping, tours, concession and fees collected by third parties are not included
unless stated otherwise.
