Volunteers are needed to help with trash pickup on the Elk River on Saturday, Oct. 12.
The McDonald County Extension Council and the Elk River Watershed Partnership are leading an e?ort to clean up a section of the Elk River, beginning at the Big Elk Campground in Pineville to Shady Beach Campground between Noel and Lanagan.
The cleanup will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Work crews will be organized and directions to cleanup spots distributed at 10 a.m. at Big ElkCamp.
Organizers are advising volunteers to bring gloves and have transportation. Garbage bags and other supplies will be provided.
The University of Missouri Extension Council hopes that the volunteer labor will translate into the river being free of trash and litter.
Call the University of Missouri Extension office at 417-223-4775 if you plan to help so canoes can be reserved. Big Elk Campground will be providing canoes for those who need them.
Bring a sack lunch; water will be provided.
University of Missouri Extension programs focus on the high-priority needs of Missourians. Each county extension center, with oversight by locally elected and appointed citizens, is your local link to practical education on almost anything.
