The sixth annual University of Missouri Tomato Festival will take place Sept. 9 at the MU Bradford Research and Extension Center.

Visitors will have the chance to taste 70 different kinds of tomatoes and 42 varieties of peppers produced on the research farm.

“Tomatoes will include popular garden types and the old varieties or heirlooms that earlier generations grew. There will be a wide range of colors, shapes and sizes,” said Tim Reinbott, Bradford Farm superintendent.

Peppers will range from mild bell peppers to flaming hot habaneros. Vendors will serve salsa samples. Visitors can judge varieties to choose a favorite.

The free event runs 4-7:30 p.m. MU and Lincoln University horticulturists will give informational talks on topics related to tomato and pepper management, including staking and mulching.

Bradford Farm is about six miles east of Columbia on Rangeline Road. For more information, including driving directions, see http://aes.missouri.edu/bradford or call 573-884-7945.
