Red and White Oak Trees, $10 Each
The City of Springfield and Springfield-Greene County Park Board will participate in a collaborative effort to Reforest the Ozarks from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, April 14, at the Missouri Entertainment and Events Center, 3001 N. Grant Ave.
A news conference will be held at 9 a.m., Wednesday, April 4, at the Doling Family Center, 301 E. Talmage St.
Reforest the Ozarks will provide an opportunity for residents to buy new red and white oak trees for $10 each, after the loss of trees in the area from the January ice storm. Each tree is approximately 5-foot tall and is valued at approximately $20. More than 2,000 trees will be available with a limit of four trees per vehicle. CASH ONLY will be accepted. Participants also can make a donation to the Springfield-Greene County Park Board to help replace trees lost throughout the city-county metropolitan parks system.
City Utilities of Springfield and The University of Missouri Extension Service will provide information about choosing the right trees and planting information for residential properties. The City of Springfield Public Works Department also will provide free mulch.
The event is sponsored by The Signature Bank, KOLR10, Turf Supply of the Ozarks, RBX Transportation, City Utilities of Springfield, Ozark Greenways, University of Missouri Extension Center, the City of Springfield, Missouri Entertainment and Convention Center, and the Springfield-Greene County Park Board.
