It’s time for the 3rd annual “Bring-a-Pumpkin-Bigger- Than-Your-Head” pumpkin drive for Dickerson Park Zoo.

In preparation for the 24th annual Halloween SPOOKTACULAR, Friends of the Zoo is asking families in the community to contribute pumpkins for this annual fall extravaganza. The zoo uses more than 1,000 pumpkins during SPOOKTACULAR. Area school children generously donate their time and talents to carve the jack-o-lanterns seen throughout the event.image

Drop off pumpkins at Dickerson Park Zoo’s admission gate. Pumpkin drive participants will receive a coupon for a free hot drink during SPOOKTACULAR and recognition on the pumpkin donor board. They will also be entered in a drawing to win one of three prizes: a one-year FOZ membership, a behind-the-scenes tour or a chance to see pumpkin activities with the elephants.

Halloween SPOOKTACULAR with grand sponsor Wal-Mart opens to the public on Oct. 20 and runs nightly through Halloween night from 6:30-9 p.m. Tickets are $4 at the gate and $3 in advance at area McDonald’s restaurants.

Dickerson Park Zoo is open daily October–March from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., weather permitting. Daytime admission fees are $6 for adults, $4 for children ages 3-12 and free for children age 2 and younger. Friends of the Zoo members are admitted free. For information about zoo events, visit http://www.dickersonparkzoo.org or call 417-864-1800.
