imageThe city of Pine Bluff is justifiably proud of its new $4.2 million Saracen Landing and is wasting no time when it comes to scheduling special events for it. Grand opening was June 16 and is being followed by a full slate of activities throughout the summer and into fall.

A 10,080-square-foot pavilion and concrete fishing pier plus a fountain that sprays water 40 feet into the air are the most notable attractions of this city project, located on the shores of 500-acre Lake Saracen in downtown Pine Bluff. Projected use for the area includes hosting fishing tournaments, educational programs, car shows, picnics, concerts, reunions and weddings.

In addition, the landing will become the new home of the Pine Bluff Farmers Market. The market will be open from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Grand opening for the relocated market will be Saturday, June 16. Other June events include a district youth softball tournament and an American Softball Association Southwestern Regional men’s competition, June 15 and 16. June 22 and 23 are the dates for one of the state’s premier outdoor events – the Arkansas Ford Dealers Big Bass Bonanza, followed by Spencer’s Bass Tournament on June 28. More softball takes place on June 29-30 and July 13-15 with the State Fast Pitch 16 & Under games.

Independence Day brings the 2nd annual Battle of the Bands 4th of July Festival; the Delta Chapter Sam Camper Rally comes to town July 11-15 and the White Hall High School Class of 1987 Reunion is scheduled for July 28. Additional Spencer Bass Tournaments will take place Aug. 9, Aug. 23 and Sep. 8. The city’s big annual fall festival – Smoke on the Water – will be Sep. 14-15.

For a listing of scheduled events, go to http://www.cityofpinebluff.com/parks/events.html. To book an event, contact the Pine Bluff Parks and Recreation Department at (870) 536-0920. Saracen Landing located on Martha Mitchell Expressway (Highway 65B) is across from the Jefferson County Courthouse complex and adjacent to the Regional Park entrance.
