A new, interactive website run by the U.S. Department of the Interior and developed by the U.S. Geological Survey and Buffalo National River, makes it easier to see river levels before heading out for a canoe or kayak trip along Arkansas’ last remaining wild river.
By checking a few boxes, visitors can also overlay National Park Service authorized camping and picnic sites as well as boat launching areas and hiking trails.
River conditions are given for five different points along the Buffalo: Boxley, Dillard’s Ferry, Grinder’s Ferry, Ponca and Pruitt. These points are color-coded to indicate whether the river is Very Low, Low, Moderate, High or at Flood Stage. Data on actual river depth in feet and water flow expressed in cubic feet per second is also provided.
And, just in case the canoe tips, the site displays a read out of both the current air and water temperature.
