Scott Wilson, son of Mike and Tina Wilson of Neosho, was the high individual in the Missouri State 4-H Dairy Judging Contest held Aug. 18 at the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia.
Wilson had a total score of 361 out of 400 possible points. He was high individual in oral reasons, second senior in Guernseys, and third senior in Holsteins among 20 senior contestants.
Second high individual in the senior division was Jessica Murphy of Lancaster. Murphy was second high senior in Holsteins.
Rounding out the top five were Susan Burd of Graff, Aubrey Ellison of Miller, and Amber Romines of St. James. Burd was second overall in Guernseys and the first place senior. Ellison was third place senior in Guernseys and Romine was second senior and third overall in Jerseys and fifth in oral reasons.
Sixth through tenth were Adrian Buff of Ava, Colton West of Sarcoxie, Thomas Patterson of East Newton, Dustin Luttrell of Republic and Clark Broyles of East Newton. Buff was second, West was third, and Burd was fourth in oral reasons.
Bailee Whitehead of Conway was the high individual in the junior division. Whitehead was first overall in Guernseys, and fourth in junior division oral reasons. In second was Michael Wilshusen of Benton County, followed by Burke Echelmeier of Fulton, Jarica Jensen of Lebanon and Jade Jensen of Lebanon. Wilshusen was the second high individual in Jerseys and Echelmeier was the high individual overall in Holsteins.
The 47 contestants placed six classes and gave two sets of reasons. The top three individuals in each breed and oral reasons received cash prizes sponsored by the Missouri breed associations.
The top four individuals in each division received plaques from the Missouri State Fair. Contestants, their families, and exhibitors who provided cattle for the event were the guests at a Junior Dairymen’s Barbeque sponsored by Midwest Dairy Association, Missouri State Fair, Missouri Cattlemen’s Association, MFA, Dairy Farmers of America and Hiland Dairy.
