Bugs, wildlife, water and fun. They’ve all been part of Scouting’s adventures. The Missouri Department of Conservation’s (MDC) Anita B. Gorman Discovery Center will host classes about outdoor skills and critters for both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5. The Discover Center is located at 4750 Troost Ave. in Kansas City.

The Center’s annual Scout Day activities are free. Individual Scouts are invited to attend and some troops attend with leaders as a group. Both are welcome.

Last year’s Scout Day attracted about 650 participants.

This year’s activities will include campfire starting tips, fly tying and fishing, knot tying, mammal studies, target shooting with pellet guns, compass skills, bird ecology, insects and other outdoor related themes. Activities will be set up at stations indoors and outdoors on the Discovery Center grounds, which include a large outdoor garden with prairie, woodland and wetland themes. MDC staff and volunteers will teach and do demonstrations at the stations. Participants can move among stations as they choose.

For more information, call the Discover Center at 816-759-7300.
