Interactive Website for Trails in Arkansas State Parks

One of the features of the Arkansas State Parks website is an interactive trial guide for hikers, backpackers, mountain bikers and horseback riders.

The site allows visitors to choose how rugged or easy a trail they seek, as well as how close or far away the trail might be from their point of origin.

Trails are divided up into categories entitled Easy, Moderate and Strenuous. Easy trails are described as being flat, well marked, and generally shorter in length than others. Moderate trails have elevation imagechanges with rugged paths that include more roots and rocks to work around than easy trails. The website refers to strenuous trails as those that are much longer and/or include extreme elevation changes. Strenuous trails also tend to have creek or stream crossings and often follow tightly around bluff lines.

Visitors can elect to filter trails by type: hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, backpacking, barrier-free for individuals with disabilities, kayaking and ATV. Entering a city name or zip code plus a distance from that point, further filters the database of trails on the site.  Visitors can even search by park name, or by the trail name.

Once a trail is selected, the site gives a brief description, the length of the trail, a place to go for more information, an interactive Google map with the trailhead marked, nearby trails, even GPS coordinates. Some trails have photos and reviews as well.

The Arkansas State Parks trail website is located at : http://www.arkansasstateparks.com/things-to-do/trails/ . The site only includes trails in the Arkansas State Park system and excludes trails on National Park lands, but still offers plenty of walks from which to choose.
