Although there is high water in some areas at Harry S Truman and Pomme de Terre state parks, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources would like to invite everyone to keep their vacation and weekend plans alive. Some facilities there are temporarily closed due to flooding, but the majority of the parks’ campgrounds, amenities and interpretive services are open. Full-service marinas at both parks are open and ready to serve campers and day-use guests alike.
At Harry S Truman State Park, near Warsaw, both the day-use and campground beaches are closed due to rising water. The campground boat launch is also closed; however, launching is still available at the park’s marina.
At the marina, the accessible parking area is closed and with lake levels expected to rise into next week, the marina parking lot will probably completely flood. Marina services, however, will remain open and staff will ferry customers across the parking lot to the marina. If that happens, the park will also have an emergency flood boat ramp available.
In the Thorny Ridge Campground, campsite numbers 183 and 184 are currently closed. With the rising water, more campsites will likely close. Visitors should watch for signs in the park indicating closed and hazardous areas. These areas will remained closed until floodwaters recede and facilities are determined to be safe for visitors. The park’s other campgrounds have not been affected and remain open for campers.
At Pomme de Terre State Park at Pittsburg and Hermitage, high lake levels have caused the closing of the beaches in both areas of the park. The Hermitage area campground boat ramp is closed; however the ramp off of the Highway 64 and RD Road entrance to the north side of the park remains open.
On the Pittsburg side, both boat ramps are open. The courtesy dock at the marina is closed. The marina itself will remain accessible. Without additional rain, the park hopes to be able to reopen these facilities by the middle of next week. The park’s campgrounds have not been affected and remain open for campers.
