Bugs so thick, they show up on radar. Thankfully, this didn’t happen in the Ozarks, but Doppler radar in La Crosse, Wisconsin picked up a mayfly hatch as it occurred along a stretch of the Mississippi River.

Mayflies hatched and went airborne for about 15 or 20 minutes on May 19, 2010 mostly south of La Cross. They show up on this National Weather Service radar image as bright pink, purple and white.
