A Labrador retriever is now healing from what Christian County officials have described as a “horrible case of neglect.”

The dog had been abandoned and had a chain collar embedded an inch and a half deep in its neck. Fortunately, a veterinarian was able to remove the collar and the dog is recovering.

Dr. Mark Divine, who treated the Lab, said, “He’s about three years old and the collar, looking at the size of it, had to be placed on him when he was six or seven months old. So I really think the collar was on him for probably a year to a year and a half.”image

Divine said the collar slowly became embedded as the dog grew in size.

The dog has received treatment over the past week and is now ready to be adopted by a loving family.
