Dog Escapes Coyotes by Catching a Bus

A Calgary, Ontario Transit driver was alarmed when she saw a couple of coyotes picking on a puppy along her route. The two coyotes had the little dog pinned under a pickup truck. That’s when driver Dawn Hagel decided to take action. She stopped the bus and opened the door to let the scared puppy board her bus.

Saying that she realized the puppy was going to become breakfast for the coyotes and knowing they could take the dog down quickly, Hagel decided that welcoming the little dog aboard was the only action she could take. The frightened Duke, a 16 month old Australian Cattle Dog, was calmed by bus passengers who also noticed a couple of bite marks on his hind legs.

Hagel was able to drop Duke off at Animal Services after her morning run and that agency reunited the pup with its owner.
