Conservation Action Meeting Notes from Oct. Mo. Conservation Commission,

The Conservation Commission met Oct. 30 at the Marshall Comfort Inn and Oct. 31 at the Martin Community Center, Marshall, Mo. Commissioners present were:

• William F. “Chip” McGeehan, Marshfield, Chairman

• Lowell Mohler, Jefferson City, Vice-chairman

• Don R. Johnson, Festus, Secretary

• Becky L. Plattner, Grand Pass, Member

The Conservation Commission set its next meeting for Dec. 18 and 19 in Jefferson City.

PRESENTATION

Commission meetings are open to the public. Those wishing to be placed on the agenda for a presentation or other business must send a written request to Director, Department of Conservation, P.O. Box 180, Jefferson City, MO 65102-0180, or FAX 573/751-4467, at least 10 working days before the meeting date. The deadline for the next meeting is Dec. 4.

REGULATIONS

The Commission approved new effective dates for changes to the 2009 Missouri Wildlife Code approved in September. Those changes that were to become effective March 1, 2009, now will become effective July 1, 2009. This action was required to comply with the publishing schedule for rules. Changes affected include permit price increases, the creation of senior “forever” permits, youth pricing and other changes. Changes approved by the Conservation Commission in September regarding requirements to receive no-cost landowner permits will not be affected, since they already were scheduled to take effect in July.

ADMINISTRATION

The Commission:

• Received a presentation from Clay County Commissioner Craig Porter concerning the Clay County Grassland and Savanna Revitalization Project at Smithville Lake.

• Presented awards to Frances Mathews and Judy Oetting for more than 2,000 hours of volunteer service at Burr Oak Woods Conservation Nature Center (CNC) in Jackson County.

• Approved the establishment of the Edna A. Richter Trust Account to receive funds from the Edna A. Richter Trust.

• Approved renaming the Discovery Trail at Burr Oak Woods Conservation Nature Center (CNC) the J. Ernest Dunn Jr. Discovery Trail.

• Approved naming a pond at Burr Oak Woods CNC the W. Robert Aylward Kids Fishing and Education Pond.

• Approved the purchase of 65.2 acres in Cole County as an addition to Smoky Waters Conservation Area (CA).

• Approved the purchase of 93.37 acres in Jefferson County as an addition to LaBarque Creek CA.

• Approved the purchase of 154.1 acres in Jefferson County as an addition to Young CA.

• The Commission suspended hunting and/or fishing privileges of 14 Missouri residents for Wildlife Code violations and affirmed actions taken by Missouri courts suspending privileges of one Missouri resident. Those whose privileges were suspended are: Johnny L. Evilsizer, Independence, all sport privileges, 1 year; Ronnie D. Hollaway, Joplin, all sport privileges, 1 year; Darrin Hostetler, La Monte, all sport privileges, 3 additional years; Jason W. Koester, Cairo, fishing, 1 year; Jason M. Ledford, Bolivar, all sport privileges, 3 years; Darin J. Lutman, Warsaw, fishing, 1 year; Derek M. McCoin, Clarkton, fishing, 1 year; Michael McCoin, Clarkton, fishing, 1 year; Jorge A. Moncada, Senath, all sport privileges, 1 year; Sherman Plunkett, Holcomb, fishing, 1 year; Boyd M. Reed, Vulcan, all sport privileges, 3 years; Jacob E. Reedy, Dixon, all sport privileges, 1 year; Chadwyk A. Runyun, Adrian, all sport privileges, 1 year; Daniel Silva, Ellington, all sport privileges, 6 additional months; Brandon L. Smith, Fordland, hunting, until 8/20/2009;

• Approved the suspension or revocation of all hunting and fishing privileges of 221 people who are not in compliance with applicable child support laws.

• Suspended the hunting and fishing privileges of 140 nonresidents under the provisions of the Interstate Wildlife Violator Compact.
