Arkansas boasts a multitude of outdoor opportunities, but it does help to know where you are going. Maps are the thing here.
Downloadable maps of Arkansas wildlife management areas and lakes, the ones of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, can be produced at home through a computer and a printer.
The website is http://www.agfc.com. Click on Data, Facts and Maps and follow the guides. For direct connection to WMA maps, use http://www.agfc.com/data-facts-maps/maps/wildlife-mgt-areas.aspx.
There are choices on size and formats of the maps, and many outdoors people will want the more detailed maps, many in 11 by 17 size. These can be printed out at home or office on two 8½ by 11 pages if an 11x17 printer is not available. Put a map in your pocket or pack for an outing. The cost is pennies, so it can be replaced if soiled, muddy or torn.
For maps of areas that may be visited repeatedly, the user may choose to have them laminated for permanency.
The detailed 11x17 maps have more information than the basic maps and also have contour lines, the prime feature of topographical maps.
Most WMA and lake maps are now ready on the Web site. Others are being created and will be available in the near future.
